Wrong chat
A message about the friend who is always late went to that very friend. Who is actually late comes out a minute later.

- Let’s start without him, he’ll catch up
- pause 1.5 s
- ThemInteresting
- YouOh no
- Mike, that wasn’t for you
- ThemI got that it wasn’t for me. It was about me
- YouIt’s a joke. An inside joke
- ThemAn inside joke about me always being late
- YouWell, you are late sometimes
- ThemI’ve been sitting in the café for forty minutes
- Alone
- The waiter already asked if I’d been stood up
- pause 1.2 s
- YouWait. Which café did we agree on?
- ThemThe one on Main Street
- YouWe’re at the one on Park Street
- ThemSo you are the ones forty minutes late
- YouLooks like it
- ThemI will remember this

Why it is funny
The opening hands over a ready-made awkward moment: the message went to the wrong person, and the reader waits to see how the hero wriggles out. The turn flips the accusation, the jokers are the late ones, and revenge by dessert closes it on good terms.
How to make it yours
The café can become a cinema, a station or someone else’s birthday party. What matters is that before the turn the reader is as sure as the hero is, otherwise the swap of who is to blame will not land.
Every chat here is fiction. Any resemblance to real people is coincidental.
