Scary text conversations

These are the stories themselves, not links to somebody else’s videos. Each conversation runs in full, with the pauses where the silence stretches in a video, and with the ending it exists for. Any of them opens in the editor as a vertical video of your own.

What a scary text conversation is

The genre grew out of short vertical video: a chat on screen, messages arriving one at a time, pauses stretching between them, the whole story inside a minute and a half. The reader sees exactly what the character sees and learns the truth at the same moment.

Hence the rule the genre runs on: the fear comes from a mismatch, not from a monster. Someone counts the people around a fire and gets one too many. Someone stands at the end of a corridor where the timetable says there is a door, and sees a wall. The monster can stay off screen entirely, and usually should.

The recurring characters

The cast is small, and each part carries its own kind of fear. That is why these stories are recognisable by the third line even to someone reading their first one.

  • The correspondent who knows more about you than they should, and will not say how
  • The friend across town: the first to understand, always a minute too late
  • The adult who knows the rule and will not explain it, because they are afraid too
  • The one writing from your number, your room, or with your surname on their ticket
  • The one nobody invited: an extra in the count, in the read list, in the row

Where to start reading

The stories are arranged by setting. School and summer camp work on recognition: the reader already carries the floor plan and the daily routine in their head, so any deviation shows without being explained. The abandoned house, the village and the ghost town work the other way: the rules there belong to somebody else and the character learns them as they go.

The witch is a mechanism of her own, an exchange: something was received, so something has to be returned. Night is not a place but a time, and in those stories the clock is a character.

How to make one of your own

Open any story and press "Make my own video": the whole text loads into the editor with the pauses already placed. Change the names, the town, the time on the clock, and it becomes yours.

What to leave alone: the pause before the turn, the short lines at the end, and the absence of explanation. Thirty messages with their pauses come to about a minute and a half of video. Each story page carries its real length, measured by the same engine that later builds the file.

What kinds of scary chat stories are there

The library has seven settings: school and boarding school, summer camp, abandoned house, village, witch, ghost town and stories about the night. Each holds two or three named stories with the full text and an ending.

Are these real conversations

No. They are scripts written for short videos. We do not publish anyone’s private messages and we do not present invented text as real.

Can I use a story for my own video
