How it works
The fear is assembled from a single wrong detail: something is being watered in a dead house. The way out closes gradually, and the reader sees it before the characters do.
How to make it yours
Swap the winter garden for an aquarium with fed fish, a laid table or a wound clock, but the detail must be fresh and dated today. Close the exits one at a time, each in its own message: the doors, the window, the handles. Name the friend at least once before the end, or the last line about watering will not land.
