How it works
The story rests on a document: the timetable insists on something the building does not have. While the argument is about a room number, the reader misses that both of them are describing the same corridor differently.
How to make it yours
The school can become a dorm, a clinic or an office floor: all it needs is a long corridor and a room number missing from the doors. Keep the landmarks identical from start to finish (the third floor, the end of the corridor, the fire cabinet), because the closing "there is a wall here" only works if the reader can walk the same route in their head. Give the longest pause to the moment before Liz asks which floor again, and add nothing after her last message.
