The empty carriage and the man on the platform belong to different times, and that is the whole construction. The ticket at the end explains why he was watching that window.
How to make it yours
Anchor the route to a real city, as Kirov does here: one real point makes the invented station believable. Leave the worn-off sign with an ending typical of your region, so the name feels familiar and still is not on any map. The drawn curtain is the hinge of the story: the act meant to protect him is what lets the stranger in. Send the ticket as two separate messages, the seat first and the surname last.
